Set in the vibrant capital city of the Netherlands, Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, now part of Dalata Hotel Group, is a 4-star, 173-bedroom hotel with an extensive food and beverage offering, including the famous Café Americain and Bar Americain. Located on Leidseplein, in one of the most famous Art Nouveau buildings in Amsterdam, we provide a unique and memorable experience for our guests.
Objective of the Role
As a Public Area Cleaner for Night-time, you will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining the hotel’s public areas during the night shift (23:00–07:00). From the lobby, restaurant, and bar to restrooms, exterior-, and back-of-house areas, you will help ensure our hotel is clean, safe, and inviting at all times. Your role is essential in creating a positive first and lasting impression for our guests, keeping the atmosphere warm and welcoming.
Key Responsibilities
Take Pride in Our Public Spaces
- Clean and maintain public areas during night hours, including the lobby, elevators, restrooms, restaurant, bar, and exterior.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly to maintain high standards.
Support Comfort & Cleanliness
- Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and empty bins as needed.
- Clean and restock public restrooms, the fitness centre, and staff areas.
Stay Organised & Work Efficiently
- Keep cleaning equipment and supplies tidy, stocked, and ready for use.
- Follow nightly task lists to ensure all assigned areas are completed to standard.
Deliver Friendly Guest Service
- Greet guests warmly, offer assistance, and respond promptly to requests in public areas.
- Maintain a professional and helpful presence at all times.
Work Together as One Team
- Communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors also from the wider hotel team to support smooth night operations and solve challenges quickly.
Prioritise Safety & Hygiene
- Always follow hotel policies on hygiene, security, and health & safety, protecting yourself, your team, and our guests.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues.
Requirements
Experience, Education, and Certifications
- Secondary school degree preferred and/or at least one year of experience in a similar housekeeping or service role.
Skills
- Ability to read and follow simple instructions in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Professional and courteous manner with guests and colleagues.
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work during overnight hours (23:00–07:00), maintaining focus, energy, and alertness throughout the night shift, including weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to move around the hotel for extended periods (standing, walking, bending, kneeling).
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying up to 25 kg.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals, heat, cold, and noisy environments.
