When writing an application letter, it is important that the letter contains a number of elements:
  • The reason for your application
  • Your motivation for the job in the hotel
  • Why you think you are a suitable candidate
  • What kind of person you are
While writing your application letter you need to have a good look at the content. Think about how the reader will read the letter, also referred to the style. To make sure the reader (your prospective employer) of the letter gets and remains interested, the letter should be written in an attractive style and without grammar or spelling mistakes. The structure of a letter and starting is most often the hardest. An application letter can be structured as follows; the reason you are applying for the job, why you are a suitable candidate for this position and in closing what action you expect of them as an invitation for a job interview.

Application example hospitality

Dear Mr. Jansen,

In response to your vacancy on the website I would like to apply to the position “Experienced Hospitality Employee”. In this letter you will read my motivation why I’m the right candidate to fulfill this position.

As you can read in my CV, I finalized the MBO education at the secondary hotel school in Amsterdam. During this education I completed several internships. After graduating I worked as a hospitality employee. I was responsible for preparing the orders and serving them.

My ambition is to have a management position in a well-known hospitality establishment. Because of my experience in the hospitality industry, I can say that communication is one of my strongest skills. People often compliment me about my communication skills. By working in the upper segment of the hospitality industry I have collected a lot of product and wine knowledge. I see myself as entrepreneurial, ambitious and stress-resistant. People often describe me as someone who is result-oriented and persistent. I am flexible and I have no limitations in my working hours. During my work I show a great sense of responsibility and hospitality.

I hope my CV and this letter have triggered your interest. I would be pleased to discuss this during an interview with you.

Yours sincerely,

Sharon Bakker
