THE POSITION

As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading the engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring optimal operational efficiency, safety, and comfort. This role requires a proactive leader who can manage, develop, and inspire a team of maintenance professionals to achieve excellence in facility management, sustainability initiatives, and compliance with all safety and building codes.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the daily operations of the engineering department, ensuring efficient maintenance and operation of all building systems including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, and fire protection.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods; direct activities of the maintenance staff to ensure hotel operational needs and safety standards are met.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and legislation.
• Manage budgets, forecasts, and expenditures related to building operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
• Lead and manage sustainability practices and initiatives to reduce energy usage and environmental impact.
• Serve as the primary contact for external contractors and vendors, negotiating contracts and managing relationships to ensure services are executed in alignment with hotel standards.
• Coordinate with other department heads to facilitate ongoing improvement of services and support across the hotel.
• Provide training, development, and performance management to the engineering staff.
• Implement and oversee emergency programs; ensure staff is trained in crisis/emergency situations.
• Manage refurbishment, renovations, and new construction projects, ensuring compliance with all architectural, construction, and government standards.

HOW YOU'LL DO IT

• Excellent communication skills.
• Collaborative approach, but also able to work independently.
• Ability to understand, prioritise and then route issues to the appropriate support provider accordingly.
• Happy to work routine-based as well as project-based.
• Analytical, practical and accurate.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facility Management, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering management, ideally in the hospitality industry.
• Proven track record of leading a diverse team in a dynamic environment.
• Strong understanding of hotel management systems, building automation systems, and energy management.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, guests, suppliers, and contractors.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and hotel management software.
