Step into the spotlight at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American - an iconic Art Deco dining landmark in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling Leidseplein.
As our Porter focused on evening shifts, you’ll play a key role during some of the hotel’s busiest and most dynamic hours. From welcoming guests after a long day of travel to assisting with luggage, directions, and security-related duties, you’ll help ensure every guest feels safe, supported, and well cared for, even later into the evening.
Working closely with the Front Office team, you’ll be a visible and reassuring presence at the hotel entrance and lobby, representing the hotel with professionalism, warmth, and confidence.
Clayton Hotel Amsterdam American, part of the Dalata Hotel Group, is a 4-star, 173-room hotel nestled in one of the most beautiful art nouveau buildings in the Netherlands. Objective of the Role
As a Porter with evening focus, you are the first and last impression for many of our guests. You ensure smooth arrivals and departures, assist with luggage and requests, and help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment mostly during evening and late shifts.
You’ll support the Front Office with guest assistance and basic security tasks, keeping a watchful eye on the hotel entrance while offering genuine hospitality at every interaction.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys active work, interacting with people, and thrives during evening hours.
Key Responsibilities
Support Guest Arrivals & Departures
- Welcome guests with genuine warmth and professionalism
- Assist guests with luggage on arrival and departure.
- Escort guests to reception or their rooms when needed.
- Take care of luggage storage, including group arrivals.
Be a Visible Presence
- Greet guests warmly in all public areas.
- Monitor the hotel entrance and address inappropriate or unwanted visitors.
- Ensure smooth traffic flow at the hotel entrance and assist guests entering or exiting vehicles.
Assist & Inform Guests
- Provide information about hotel facilities, services, and local attractions.
- Assist with bookings, messages, and small errands when required.
- Support Front Office with check-ins and check-outs when needed.
Maintain Standards & Safety
- Keep the entrance, lobby, and surrounding areas clean, tidy, and presentable.
- Follow safety, security, and fire procedures, including daily fire walks.
- Communicate any issues or irregularities to the Front Office Manager.
Work as Part of the Team
- Maintain positive, professional communication with all departments.
- Participate in shift handovers and support colleagues during busy moments.
- Represent the hotel with pride, integrity, and professionalism.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for a service-minded professional who enjoys being active, visible, and guest-focused, especially during evening hours. Here’s what makes a good fit:
- MBO Level 2 working and thinking level or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in service or a similar guest-facing role
- Friendly, professional, and confident in guest interactions
- Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus)
- Physically fit and comfortable handling luggage and standing/walking for long periods
- Calm, alert, and reliable - especially during late shifts
- Available to work evening shifts, weekends, and public holidays
